– A big problem with this company is overemployment. I’m talking about global numbers – said Tomasz Sygut in an interview with “Gazeta Wyborcza”.
He noted that with Telewizja Polska in addition to approximately 3 thousand full-time employees are people related have civil law contracts with the broadcaster, B2B contracts and work in larger companies with permanent orders from TVP. That makes a total of several thousand people.
Staff space in TVP centers
– This is best illustrated by an example 16 regional centers, where we have 770 employees, but together with our co-workers there are almost 3,000 people. That’s space! – Sygut emphasized. As a result, the fixed costs of operating regional centers amount to more than PLN 220 million. This is more than double the spending on content.

As an example, Tomasz Sygut cited the Kielce branch, whose new headquarters cost about PLN 4 million and its construction was completed in the middle of last year. Despite this, the Kielce center still rents space in the local cultural center. “The working conditions, to put it mildly, are average. The costs are high,” the TVP CEO described.
He explained why the TVP3 Kielce team cannot move to their new headquarters. – Almost 2 thousand m² There are tables and even hangers in the wardrobes. There is no technology, he said. – To turn this office building into a television station, it takes several million zlotys. It stands empty and generates costs, because the protection itself costs several tens of thousands of zlotys per month. – he added.
Sygut noted that it was possible to significantly reduce these expenses. – Today we cannot afford to equip this headquarters with technology, but even if we do this, what will several dozen people working in the center do for 2,000 square meters? – he asked. – Absurdity follows absurdity – he emphasized.
Focus on local content
In recent months, reruns of content (including foreign series) from its main broadcasters have been removed from TVP’s broadcasts. – We’re done with that. The centers should focus on producing local news services, journalism and TAI services – emphasized the general director of the public broadcaster.
Starting in September, with the launch of the new TVP3 programming, a new arrangement of regional centers’ own bands will emerge. – We have given up bands in our branches that generated costs but had insignificant audience – described Tomasz Sygut.

There will be more changes in the branches. – By the end of the year, we want to not only significantly reduce employment, but also value those who support these centers – journalists, producers, etc. This process has already begun in many branches, Sygut said.
There were fewer directors and managers
Under the new authorities, Telewizja Polska has also reorganized its entire structure. The changes were introduced in the spring. As we have already described, in February this year TVP Nauka, TVP ABC (which was also responsible for the Alfa TVP channels and the virtual TVP ABC 2) and TVP Mulher ceased to be separate units. The Culture and History Center, which was responsible for the TVP Kultura, TVP História, TVP Documento, TVP HD channels and the virtual TVP Kultura 2 and TVP Historia 2 channels, also disappeared. These channels were transferred to the programming department, which has been managed since December last year by Sławomir Zieliński.
In June, the Office for Sales and International Cooperation was merged with the Office for Purchasing and Production Standards. TVP also said goodbye to the advisors of the previous board of directors, and Krzysztof Luft, Jan Ordyński and, until recently, Sławomir Rogowski (he was appointed Deputy Minister of Culture in early August) cooperate with Tomasz Sygut as consultants.

Effects? – We have eliminated 17 management positions, which resulted in annual savings of PLN 5 million. Reducing the number of managers means further savings – approximately PLN 3.5 million. Eliminating management consultant positions will generate another PLN 2 million annually. – Tomasz Sygut calculated. He noted that his three consultants in total earned less than one management consultant during Jacek Kurski’s presidency.
– And the famous corporate security department, which was mainly responsible for protecting Kurski, no longer exists. Ten positions, including a manager. We saved PLN 1.5 million, he noted.
Production managers without 200 thousand monthly
Telewizja Polska also cuts salaries, which it considers too high. – When I came to TVP, I found production managers earning PLN 150,000 each. PLN per month. The record holder withdrew almost PLN 220,000 in December. zloty. There is no such pathology today – described the general director.
How can a production manager earn PLN 220,000 per month? zloty? – There is no chance of earning that amount under normal circumstances. No matter how many productions he made, he had to add to the others – Sygut said.

He noted that TVP will save almost PLN 10 million annually just by adjusting the salaries of production managers– We are talking to “Solidariedade”, a representative union, to convert the rates of this professional group into permanent packages, as is the case with producers – he added.
