Polish Radio is facing financial problems. For this reason, the company’s liquidator Paweł Majcher and the board member Juliusz Kaszyński sent a letter on Tuesday afternoon to some of the employees who receive salary bonuses.
As we read: ‘Since we arrived at Polish Radio, one thing has been our top priority – your remuneration. Despite the lack of receipt of subscription funds, today the arrears exceed PLN 100 million, every month we manage to pay the full amount due to you regularly and on time. This month we are forced to ask for a little patience.”
Additions will come later
– As I’m sure you know, The radio survives thanks to subsidies from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage. These come irregularly, every two or three months, but must be paid daily and according to clear guidelines. These strict rules make it impossible to pay debts to various contractors and save money.for example, for future payments. Each subsidy also required a separate agreement and its meticulous settlement, he added.
And he concluded: “This month, probably because of the holiday season, the process of preparing the said agreement has been prolonged. We assure you that as soon as we receive the grant, which will be this week, we will immediately pay all the money due.”

A year ago, the National Broadcasting Council predicted that by 2024, revenues from television licences would amount to almost PLN 620 million. Polish television was supposed to receive PLN 316.2 million from this fund, and the rest would be received by Polish radio and regional stations (PLN 151.9 million each). Following changes in public media, the regulator froze the disbursement of funds in January. A month later, it decided to transfer them to the escrow account. Many companies appealed these actions, and currently only a few regional radio stations receive money from the licence fee.
TVP, Radio Polskie and regional stations cannot count on billions in subscription compensation this year. President Andrzej Duda vetoed the budget bill. Public media must support themselves exclusively with advertising and budget reserves – they have so far received three subsidies from the Ministry of Culture – Polish Radio first received PLN 10 million, then PLN 74.2 million and PLN 65 million. The last scholarship was paid in July this year.
