Police arrested a pizzeria owner who was selling cocaine as a side dish

Police in the city of Düsseldorf, Germany, arrested a pizzeria owner who was selling cocaine as a side dish. To order the drug, customers use a code referring to “item number 40” on the menu.

According to crime director Michael Graf von Moltke, the scheme was reported by health inspectors in March this year. While monitoring the work in the pizzeria, the agents discovered drug trafficking, which led to the arrest of the owner of the establishment. He was arrested while trying to get rid of 1.6 kg of cocaine.

However, the man was released days later. He reopened the restaurant and resumed selling pizza accompanied by the drug, which helped police identify the location’s supply chain. “Number 40 was one of the best-selling pizzas,” Moltke said.

This week, 150 police officers busted a drug-trafficking ring in the west of the country and arrested three suspects, including the head of the operation and the owner of the pizzeria, who was again trying to flee abroad. Agents also raided two cannabis plantations, where more than 300 stems of the plant were found.
