In October 2024, off the Polish coast near Wolin, the American company Noble Corporation will begin drilling using the Noble Resolve platform. The client of the project is the Canadian company Central European Petroleum, which, through its Polish subsidiary, has held a license to explore hydrocarbons in this region since 2017.
Wolin Natural Gas
CEP intends to exploit natural gas, which according to analyses has accumulated in the dolomite layers of the main barrier facies and in the Rotliegend sandstones. The potential gas extraction is of great economic importance, not only for the company itself, but also for the region.
Wolin, located a short distance from the terminal LNG in Świnoujście and the Police Petrochemical Complex, is a strategic location that can facilitate the transmission and management of the extracted raw material. The Noble Resolve platform will carry out drilling and the work will last 45 days. The contract with Noble Corporation is worth US$ 140,000 per day.
“This agreement is a milestone for Noble because it is the first time we have drilled offshore Poland. In our Gdańsk office, we have almost 300 employees who are particularly proud of this achievement, and we appreciate the trust that Central European Petroleum has placed in our people,” said Blake Denton, Vice President of Marketing at Noble Corporation, upon signing the agreement.
Noble Corporation debuts in Polish seas
Noble CorporationAn international company specializing in drilling services is making its debut in Poland. Drilling in the CEP concession will be carried out by a self-elevating rig called Noble Resolve, capable of operating in waters up to 100 meters deep and drilling at depths exceeding 9,100 meters.
It is estimated that natural gas deposits in the CEP concession area Wolin could be the equivalent of more than 300 million barrels of oil. CEP is already in talks with potential recipients of the extracted gas, which suggests that the company is well prepared for the next phase of the project. The original schedule, published in 2021, envisaged the start of production in 2027, assuming that drilling would begin in 2023. However, due to delays, the start of gas exploration will be postponed.
