In early August, the board of directors of PKP Cargo w restrukturyzacji (under restructuring) announced the start of consultations with the company’s trade unions on the intention to carry out collective redundancies at PKP Cargotabor.
“The above decision was influenced by the difficult financial situation of the Subsidiary, the suspension of orders for repair of rolling stock from PKP CARGO SA and the non-repayment of liabilities from PKP CARGO SA, as well as the fact that the Subsidiary filed a request for opening restructuring proceedings and a request for declaration of bankruptcy of PKP CARGOTABOR Sp. (…)” – it was announced in the statement.
A desperate situation at PKP Cargotabor?
As Agnieszka Konieczny from Solidarity in Katowice writes, representatives from both sides (employers and employees) were due to discuss the future of the company on 12 August. However, the meeting was cancelled, as was the one on 7 August. – The situation is at an impasse and the date of the next meeting is set for August 21. – says Andrzej Morel, President of PKP Cargotabor’s “Solidarity”.
Trade unionists say they learned of the intention to make the redundancies through the media, probably through the company’s current report. It is not yet known how many people will be laid off and which rolling stock repair plants will be closed.
We have been asking PKP Cargo to comment on this issue since July. Today we are renewing our request for a statement. Julita Sołtysiak, acting director of the promotion and communication office of PKP Cargo, told us that For formal reasons, cannot comment on matters related to the subsidiary PKP CARGO Tabor“all communication relating to the Company is and will be published, as before, in the Current Reports” – we read in a message to Gazeta Prawna.
Shorter working week at PKP Cargotabor
According to Andrzej Morel, president of PKP Cargotabor’s “S”, the working week has been reduced to four days and therefore wages have been reduced by 20%.
– A month ago, everyone decided individually whether they agreed to reduce working hours. Employees are willing to tighten their belts, but they would like to see their efforts bring results, says the president of “S”.
Employee anxiety is growing. Many do not take advantage of the pressure and resign.. Andrzej Morel reports that he has been away from work in recent weeks about 200 people remained.
Meanwhile, PKP Cargotabor recently announced that it has withdrawn its request to open a restructuring process.
The company employs approximately 2,400 people. In addition to the headquarters in Warsaw, it includes 16 rolling stock repair sections. They are located in Dąbrowa Górnicza, Jaworzyna Śląska, Kraków, Tarnowskie Góry and Zabrzeg Czarnolesie.
