Pilots reject Aeromexico’s proposal, and are one step away from striking

Aeromexico pilots affiliated with the Association of Aviation Pilots Association (ASPA) this afternoon rejected the contractual proposal put forward by the airline, so if another offer that suits them is not made before midnight, they will call a strike.

If an agreement is not reached between the pilots and the company, this means that 150 aircraft will be grounded. In the vote that took place this afternoon, 778 votes were counted, including 141 votes in favor of the Aeromexico proposal and 637 votes in favor of the strike.

ASPA spokesman José Alonso Torres said in a morning interview on Radio Formula that Aeromexico had only offered them a 6.5% salary increase.

He explained that 15% of the salaries of older pilots were withdrawn, and travel expenses, vacations, and overtime wages were reduced.

He explained that starting at noon they will be at a pilots’ meeting where the proposal will be explained and the pilots will vote on it.

He added on the radio, “From there, it will be announced within 10 days so that they know exactly what the content of this proposal is, and if it is passed, it will be an extension, and flights will not be cancelled, and then 10 days to vote in the ballot boxes.” interview, so that the strike does not break out on October 1.

As of 6 p.m. on Monday, Torres commented that the pilots’ meeting was not over yet.
