Important information for southwestern Poland. The filling level of the Racibórz Dolny reservoir, which caught the Oder flood wave, is decreasing. As of Wednesday morning, it was less than 138 million cubic meters, or approximately 74.5% of its capacity, according to Polish Waters.
At night, there was local discharge from the landfill located near the reservoir Raciborz Dolny polder Bukówbut according to assurances from Polish Waters, the situation is under control and the work carried out there is coming to an end.
“Flood control reservoir fill level Racibórz Dolny at 6.00 totaled 137.88 million cubic meters, i.e. approx. its capacity. The water flow rate from the reservoir is approximately 780 cubic meters per second and will be maintained for the foreseeable future,” the statement said.
On Tuesday, the Racibórz Dolny reservoir collected 147.9 million cubic meters of water, which constitutes approximately 80% of its capacity. Since then, as the hydrometeorological situation has stabilized, the amount of water accumulated there has decreased.
Spokesperson for Polish Waters – Regional Water Management Board in Gliwice, Linda Hofman, confirmed that discharge from the Buków polder was detected at nightwhich also dams flood waters. Its quantity is currently estimated at approximately 30 million cubic meters, with a polder capacity of approximately 55 million cubic meters.
The total length of the Buków polder embankments is approximately 14 km. As part of our night-time monitoring and supervision of the hydrotechnical facilities, our team noticed seepage from the embankment – in some places locally – in a section of approximately 150 m in the Buków Polder. Because we take every situation of this kind seriously, we have asked for support from the services and the reinforcement of this section has been underway since the evening. – described the spokesperson.
She noted that the continuity of the embankments was not interrupted. The task of the services was to seal the site from the exudate.
The work is progressing as planned. The situation is now under control and stabilized. As far as I know, the service activities will end soon. – noted and added that no irregularities were detected in other sections of the Buków polder.
Racibórz Dolny Reservoir with a capacity of 185 million cubic meters. began to be filled on Sunday morning to absorb excess water flowing from the Oder.
The construction of the dry reservoir in Racibórz was completed at the turn of May and June 2020. It covers 26 square kilometers. The length of the reservoir dams is more than 20 km. The cost of the investment co-financed by the European Union, the World Bank, the Council of Europe Development Bank and the state budget amounted to approximately PLN 2 billion.
The Buków polder located above, which came into operation in 2002, cooperates with the Racibórz reservoir. This investment included, among others: 14.5 km of embankments forming lateral barriers of the polder, two structures allowing control of the polder operation and a dividing embankment.
