He said that 221 elderly people lived in the boarding house. The evacuation is currently underway.
“There are injured people, some of them in serious condition, they are hospitalized. There are no casualties,” Artyukh said.
According to the employees of the institution, 24 people were on the fifth floor. The main impact occurred on the upper floors of the facility.
Sumy OVA later clarified that one person died from his injuries in the hospital and 9 more people were injured.
At 18:05, the press service of the State Emergency Service reported 12 victims.
“The technical and fifth floors were partially destroyed. 147 people were evacuated from the building. There are no people under the rubble. One person died and 12 were injured,” the report said.
Five buses were involved in the work, including two from the State Emergency Service, as well as two medical units from the State Emergency Service for transporting patients to hospitals and other nursing homes.
