Ukrainian boxer and world heavyweight champion Oleksandr Usyk was briefly detained at Krakow airport. President Volodymyr Zelensky, quoted by Reuters, said the boxer has now been released.

Video posted on social media shows Usyk, 37, in handcuffs, led by Polish officers.

The reasons for the detention of 37-year-old Usyk are unclear. According to the Onet portal, which refers to information obtained from Polish prosecutor Andrzej Wasilewski, The Ukrainian boxer questioned the actions of the Polish services, who did not want to let his friend board the plane.

The boxer was supposed to come from Kiev to Krakow, from where he would fly to Spain.

According to Ukrainian sources, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry was supposed to intervene in Usyk’s detentionand the consul of this country went to the airport. This information could not be confirmed by the PAP at the Border Guard on Tuesday night.

Around midnight, Zelensky posted information about “Now everything is fine, our champion has been released and is no longer detained,” he added.
