Munich’s Oktoberfest has opened. Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD) drank the first barrel of beer with two shots on Saturday at exactly 12 midnight. Around six million visitors are expected on October 6.
Oktoberfest hosts set off for the festival site in fine weather. They march in carriages, accompanied by brass bands and brewing teams, through the center of Munich to Theresienwiese. Thousands of people line the streets to watch the parade that is the first highlight of the festival.
At exactly 9 am, the organizers open the entrance to the Oktoberfest grounds – and Oktoberfest fans rush to the beer tents.
