On Monday, more than 150 soldiers set out to search for a drone that flew from Ukraine to the Lublin region more than a week ago. As RMF FM reporter Mateusz Chłystun found out, this is likely to be the last day of action in this area.
Today, soldiers mainly search the area near Kadłubiska in the Dołhobyczów commune (Hrubieszów poviat, Lublin Voivodeship). The search involves, among others: horse and foot patrols.
The action will last at least until nightfall and beyond a decision must be made whether it will resume tomorrow. For now – as an RMF FM reporter at the Operational Command discovered – There are no activities scheduled for Tuesday (September 3)..
So far, the search for the Russian object that disappeared from the radars in the commune of Tyszowcedid not bring results.
The border with Ukraine has already been combed several thousand hectares of fields and forests.
A few days ago, the military announced that they did not rule out a scenario in which the drone – after violating our airspace – returned to Ukraine.
Let us recall that on August 26, early in the morning, Russia launched a massive air strike against Ukraine, including on districts located near the border with Poland. The Operational Commander of the Armed Forces, General Maciej Klisz, announced that day that at 6:43 a.m., an “aerial object” flew into Polish territory near the Ukrainian city of Chervonograd and is probably still there. As the military explained, it was most likely an “unmanned aerial vehicle.”
On Monday Foreign Minister Radosław Sikorski told the Financial Times that “Poland and other countries bordering Ukraine have an obligation to shoot down incoming Russian missiles before they enter their airspace.” In his view, “Poland has an obligation to ensure the safety of its citizens, regardless of concerns that intercepting missiles over Ukrainian territory could involve NATO in Russia’s war with Ukraine.”
