Former Republican presidential candidate Nikki Haley has slammed Vice Presidential candidate JD Vance for making derogatory comments about childless women. “It’s not helpful to talk about whether women have children or not,” the 52-year-old said of her party colleague’s comments. “You know, if you want to talk about things, focus on politics. Americans are smart. They don’t need other noise to distract them.”

Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump introduced Vance as his running mate in mid-July. Soon after, the politician and author came under fire for sexist comments about childless women. In a 2021 interview, the father of three described a leading Democratic politician as a “childless cat woman.” Vance later complained that he had been misunderstood. The senator’s comments were not unique in this direction. Vance has also argued that in a democracy, people without children should have less say and pay more taxes. He continued to make disparaging remarks about childless people during his campaign.
Although Haley has publicly denied any interest in being Trump’s running mate, there have been reports that the former South Carolina governor was interested in the job. But Trump has made it clear that he is not considering Haley for the role. The 78-year-old wants to return to the White House after the November 5 presidential election.
Haley and Trump were bitter opponents in the primaries.
Haley also spoke about her support for Trump in a TV interview. Republicans questioned Trump’s mental fitness for the presidency during the primary campaign, when he attacked the daughter of an Indian immigrant with racist remarks. Despite this, the former U.S. ambassador to the United Nations made a political turnaround, aggressively supporting her former boss at the Republican National Convention in July. Trump appears uninterested in further campaign support from his former opponent.

Asked if she would hold a rally for Trump, Haley said, “He knows I’m ready.” Journalist Margaret Brennan asked, “That means you haven’t been asked by the campaign. Are you advising him on the debate preparation or are you talking to the campaign team?” Haley replied, “I’m not. That’s his decision.” Trump can do whatever he wants on the campaign trail. “I haven’t been asked yet. But if he asks, I’d be happy to help.” She supports Trump’s political goals, though she disagrees with his political style.
