There is no agreement within the Alliance on shooting down Russian missiles over Ukraine because the Allies fear Russian retaliation.
Minister Radosław Sikorski’s comment to the Financial Times, in which he expressed the opinion that Russian missiles about to enter our airspace were a legally justified target for the Alliance’s troops, was widely reported in Poland and other NATO countries, as well as in Ukraine. The Polish foreign minister explained that this would be an act of self-defence, because once the missiles fly over Poland, there is a high risk of injuring someone with shrapnel. He also noted that this was his private opinion on the situation, which was later repeated by Foreign Ministry spokesman Paweł Wroński. “This is Minister Sikorski’s personal opinion, not the position of the Polish government,” he argued.
Officially, Poland has not changed its approach
