The Sieradz Public Prosecutor’s Office has filed an indictment against Daniel M., who in May 2023 in an orphanage in Tomisławice (Łódź Voivodeship) killed 16-year-old Oliwia with a knife, and then attacked 4 other defendants of the facility and a teacher. The defendant faces life imprisonment.
On Monday, the Sieradz District Prosecutor’s Office informed Fr. completion of the investigation and filing of an indictment against Daniel M. The man was accused charges of committing the crime of murder of the minor Oliwia and attempted murder of four other minors and one adult. At the time he committed these acts, the man was 19 years old and – according to experts – was sane.
According to investigators, on May 9, 2023, at night, Daniel M. entered 16-year-old Oliwia’s room through an open window. An argument ensued between him and a resident of the care and education institution in Tomisławice, which resulted in A 16-year-old girl was stabbed. The girl died at the scene.
The 19-year-old had been dating the victim of the attack for over a year, they were students at the same school in Warta.
During his escape, Daniel M. also attacked a teacher and four students at the institution. He then left, threw away the knife he had used to stab the victims and hid his clothes.
The murder weapon and clothes with traces of blood were soon found by the police, and Daniel M. was arrested shortly after the incident.
According to the experts’ conclusions, 16-year-old Oliwia died as a result of “circulatory arrest caused by a cardiac embolism and massive hemorrhage resulting from bleeding from stab wounds.” The other victims suffered injuries and health problems from being stabbed.
As the Sieradz Public Prosecutor’s Office states in its statement, Daniel M. initially pleaded guilty to the acts of which he was charged. However, during subsequent interrogations, he modified his line of defense and he pleaded no further guilty to the charges, including: questioning intent to kill and refusing to explain.
The presence of alcohol or alcohol-like substances, drugs, narcotics, psychotropic substances or energy drink ingredients was not detected in Daniel M.’s blood. Expert psychiatrists and a psychologist, after carrying out forensic psychiatric observation, stated that Daniel M. was sane at the time he committed the acts of which he was accused.
According to the Sieradz Public Prosecutor’s Office, extensive evidence collected during the investigation – statements of witnesses, including victims, explanations in part of the suspect and searches carried out, inspection of the incident site, things and people, as well as opinions of experts in the field of: forensic medicine, psychiatry, psychology, neurology, traseology, dactyloscopy, forensic informatics, biological and toxicological tests – fully justified the prosecution against Daniel M. for the crime of murder of the minor Oliwia and five attempted murders of minor victims and her teacher.
Daniel M., who has never been convicted before, is in pretrial detention. The crimes he is accused of are punishable by life imprisonment.
