Mother and son sentenced to preventive detention for telephone fraud

City of Juarez.- A supervising judge issued preventive detention against a mother and daughter who participated in a telephone scam, the State Prosecutor’s Office reported.

Today, September 19, the charges were presented to the Control Judge, with the defendants requesting the multiplication of the constitutional terms so that their legal situation can be resolved. The judge set a hearing regarding the process for next Monday, September 23.

In the same initial hearing, the application of preventive measures was also debated, with the Control Judge imposing preventive detention for a period of eight months.

In the ministry’s investigation, it was established that on June 27, 2023, through the modality of “employee fraud”, the defendants managed to get the domestic worker to hand over a suitcase containing gold jewelry and cash amounting to $419,922.00 pesos.

The crime spree began with a phone call to the employee’s home phone, by someone claiming to be the victim’s “lawyer,” who supposedly “needed me to help him immediately.” The caller managed to trick the employee into handing over a suitcase containing cash and jewelry.
