“At the age of 14, I already wanted to do something for myself”he recalled this Wednesday, September 18, in an interview with Pequenas Empresas & Grandes Negócios, on TV Globo.
Antônia’s determination was passed on to her daughters, Luna English: Thai Birthwho came together to open a unique bar. This is Casa Sankofa Bar and Culture, in Dois de Julho.
From the start, its founding identity was clear: representing the power of black women. “We wanted to create a place where women could drink beer in peace, without being disturbed,” explains Luana.
The team of collaborators reflects this philosophy. Lorena Lima de Oliveira, a waitress at the bar, highlights the importance of welcoming. “When you go anywhere, you want to be welcomed. Here we make customers feel at home,” she says.
Today, mother and daughter earn between R$38 thousand and R$40 thousand per month with the company. In addition to its welcoming proposal, this place stands out for its menu, which includes unique dishes such as vatapá coxinha and xinxim rice.
The bar also has partnerships with other black entrepreneurs, such as Manu Bombom, a chef, and Rosana Oliveira, a liquor entrepreneur.
“Our services are deeply humane and strategically designed to best serve our community. We prioritize hiring Black professionals and those from the LGBTQIA+ community.”added Luana. “The moment was not easy, but we delivered it beautifully, we are proud of it. We will continue to do better and continue to learn and connect with our roots to build our future, that is what Sankofa means!”conclude.
