Buffer zone
Since June 13, a buffer zone with a ban on staying has been in force on a section of approximately 60 km of the border with Belarus in Hajnówka County (Podlaskie Voivodeship). It was introduced for 90 days on the basis of the regulations of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Administration. For more than 40 km it is not allowed to stay in a strip 200 meters wide from the border line, for 16 km the strip is approximately 2 km wide.
According to the Ministry of Interior and Administration, the zone is functioning well and since its introduction, the number of attempts to cross the border illegally has decreased by 70%. According to representatives of this ministry, this decrease was also influenced by the presence of preventive police forces at the border.
