More pay rises for teachers? Head of Polish Teachers’ Union: Life is dynamic, value of money has fallen since January

Salary increase for teachers? “Life is dynamic”

“We are grateful for what happened in January. But let us not forget that life is dynamic, that eight months have passed from January to August and the value of money has fallen,” the ZNP chief said. He noted that on Wednesday data from the Central Statistical Office was published showing that wages increased in July.

Broniarz also recalled the citizens’ draft to amend the Teachers’ Charter Act, which was prepared by the Polish Teachers’ Union. The aim of the draft is to link the value of teachers’ salaries to the average wage. As he stressed, “it is crucial that this initiative has not been discussed until now, since January 25”. In his opinion, if we want to “eliminate the staffing gap in education, we must first of all address the issue of working conditions and the amount of pay”.

Minister Nowacka took over from Czarnek

The head of the ZNP was also questioned about the words of the head of the Ministry of National Education, Barbara Nowacka, who admitted that there is a shortage of places in schools, but currently there is a so-called transfer window, and personnel movements are underway.

PFRON Inspections. Rules for carrying out inspections

“The minister perfectly took over Minister Czarnek’s place, perhaps without knowing it. He also tried to show that it was a natural change of personnel, that the absence of a teacher was not a big drama. For the minister, probably yes, but for the students whom this teacher was supposed to teach “It is a drama”, he said.

Broniarz also pointed out “a demographic phenomenon that is not yet occurring in a dramatic way, but will appear in the coming years due to the lack of children.”

“We must also think about this in the context of the labour market, of the number of teachers trained by current universities who will remain in the labour market, and at some point an insufficient number of children may threaten their employment,” he explained. “We are thinking about compensation benefits for teachers and reform solutions, which we also want to talk about today at the Ministry of Education,” he added (PAP).
