A flight from Cancun, Mexico, to Chicago had to make an emergency landing in Memphis. The plane hit severe turbulence. Seven people were injured.
United Airlines reported the incident on Wednesday. A Boeing 737 flying from Cancun, Mexico to Chicago, experienced turmoil in Louisiana. The pilots decided to make an emergency landing.
“United Flight 1196 was diverted to Memphis after being found a short period of severe turbulence. At the time of the incident, the ‘fasten seatbelts’ light was on,” the airline said in a statement, as cited by CNN.
The plane landed safely at Memphis airport. Paramedics were already waiting there.
One person was transported to the hospital. It is not known what condition he is in.
The remaining 6 injured refused medical help.
There were 179 people on board the plane, including seven crew members. After a stopover in Memphis, the plane continued its flight.
She arrived at Chicago’s O’Hare Airport two hours late.
The Federal Aviation Administration has launched an investigation into the matter.
