The kebab chain “Haus des Döners” has written a real success story. There are currently 94 branches in Germany, the majority of which can be found in North Rhine-Westphalia and especially in the Rhineland. However, now there are negative headlines – as hygiene deficiencies were discovered in individual branches.
Food inspectors made disgusting discoveries at two branches in Düsseldorf and Duisburg – for example, the area in Düsseldorf where lettuce was cut was covered in mold.

In addition, cold storage “had mold in large areas,” as “Bild” reported, based on a report from consumer portal Food Transparency NRW. There were further defects on items that required refrigeration and some of the kebab skewers were damaged.
In Duisburg there are also “mildew-like” conditions that need to be complained about. In Duisburg, auditors also found that minced meat prepared in rotisseries was sold as “doner kebab” even though it contained soy protein. This is considered “misleading.”
The company has optimized its control system and plans to prevent possible complaints through more intensive hygiene training for employees. Unannounced on-site inspections are also planned.
