Mobility ‘becoming a problem’

Ciudad Juárez.- The proposed “Hoy no circulation” program to limit the circulation of cars will be discussed in the forum for the preparation of the City Development Plan. The same will also be analyzed by the Urban Research and Planning Institute (IMIP) and the Mobility Council, said Mayor Cruz Pérez Cuéllar.

“To improve mobility in the city, we are facing a serious problem; the infrastructure needs are still not met at the moment,” the city president said.

He indicated that this was “a serious and feasible proposal, given the traffic we face in this city, but it is not just a wish.”

He stated that the proposal to increase mobility was a well-intentioned proposal and therefore would be discussed in the 2024-2027 City Development Plan drafting forum.

“What I ask is that this is discussed extensively in the City Development Plan photos,” he said confidently.

He said this would also be analyzed by the Urban Research and Planning Institute and the City Mobility Council.

“There are voices in favor, there are also those against, so let’s find what’s best for this city, beyond the president’s opinion,” he commented.

This week, the head of the Ecology Directorate Office, César René Díaz Gutiérrez, stated that his office would conduct a study to analyze the possibility of implementing the “Hoy no Circula” program.

Because, reducing the number of vehicles circulating in the city has become a necessity, he believes.

He said that with about 500,000 vehicles passing through the city, “it is very important to reduce the number of vehicles in the city, because we have a lot of vehicles circulating.”

He stated that 85 percent of air pollution sources come from vehicles, namely hydrocarbons.

The official noted that once the study is conducted, by 2025 “the groundwork can be laid” for implementing the program.
