O The Minister of Civil Affairs, Rui Costa, announced that the federal government will revoke ViaBahia’s concession for the management of BR 116 and 324.which crosses Bahia. The announcement was made during the election campaign schedule this Saturday (21), in Vitória da Conquista.
According to the minister, there was a review of the concession contracts made by the federal government and problematic contracts had been identified, with ViaBahia considered “one of the most serious”. Several contract requirements were not met by the company, such as the restoration of asphalt pavement and runway lighting..
“No agreement was reached. We then asked ViaBahia to withdraw from the contract. This output is forwarded. In other words, the government will withdraw ViaBahia from its concession,” said the Minister of Finance. The company’s deadline to set a date for fulfilling the requirements expired on Thursday (19) and no action was taken.
Now, the process will continue to Federal Audit Court (TCU)who will approve the final decision. “If the TCU deems the withdrawal referral to be fair and correct, Via Bahia […] out in December,” he added.
If the concession is terminated, the federal government would have to take over the management of the highway and carry out work to prepare for a new concession. There is still no certainty as to when this should happen.
