Before the German ticket price hike on Monday, Oliver Krischer (Greens), the NRW Transport Minister, is demanding a moderate increase. The price increase must not jeopardize the attractiveness of the ticket and must maintain a solid financial basis for the ticket, Krischer told German media.
“In view of rising costs, we can only avoid price increases if the federal government provides additional funding. But that is currently unpredictable. That is why we cannot avoid a moderate price increase,” said a Green Party member. The success of the Deutschlandticket, which currently allows travel on local transport throughout Germany for 49 euros a month, must be maintained and expanded. “This also means that funding is on a stable basis,” the minister said.
On Monday morning, the transport ministers will meet for a special digital meeting to discuss public questions about the Deutschlandticket. According to the Bavarian Transport Ministry, the price should rise to 64 euros from 2025. dpa has learned from the state that the Tedenz is likely to cost between 54 and 59 euros. However, the decision must be made only at the meeting. NRW currently chairs the meeting of the transport ministers of the states.
