CDU leader Friedrich Merz spoke in favor of tightening the criminal law for juveniles. The Union’s candidate for chancellor announced in the newspaper “Bild am Sonntag” that he wants to restrict the application of the criminal law for juveniles. “I have absolutely no understanding that we are talking about the right to vote at 16, but the criminal responsibility of young people between the ages of 18 and 21. Between 18 and 21, they are almost regularly sentenced under juvenile criminal law and not adult criminal law. I think “We have to change that.”
Merz calls for “clear stop signs” for criminals
Merz also announced that the judiciary would be strengthened if the election was won: “clear stop signals” were needed for criminals. Law enforcement must come quickly. “It should not take years, but rather the procedures should be simplified. The courts should be equipped. This is very much a state issue. That is why Merz wants to revive the federal-state alliance: “We once had an agreement for the rule of law in Germany. The coalition was cancelled. “Something like this has to come back.”
