Some of the latest payments have been linked to fixing administrative errors, as road users may have paid more interest during their policy.
The companies are currently contacting customers who may have had repayment difficulties.
Motorist Andrew wrote to Martin explaining: “Just thought I’d let you know I made a claim with Motonovo on the day your email template went live. I’ve just received £3,345 back in compensation.”
Writing on the MSE forum, Mr_X added: “I have received a letter from them with a check for £269.91. I can’t work out if this is my ‘discretionary commission’ query or something completely unrelated?
Speaking about the latest payments to drivers, the Money Saving Expert said motorists could see companies trying to “proactively fix” problems in the coming months.
The MSE added: “The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) does not comment on individual cases, but said it expects firms to proactively take steps to fix problems they identify, which may include offering refunds to affected consumers.
“However, it expects companies to explain why they offer compensation and the consequences of accepting it. If in doubt, check directly with your service provider.”
