Marília Mendonça’s older brother opens up about fighting depression

This weekend’s edition of Domingo Espetacular (29/9) features an emotional conversation with João Gustavo, brother of singer Marília Mendonça, who died in November 2021, in a plane crash.

Now 23 years old, the boy spoke to reporter Paulo Henrique Santos, in Goiás, and spoke about his struggle with severe depression and difficulties in coping with the death of his sister:

“At that moment, in my head, I had to show myself strong to the world. I had to follow the steps that Marília directed and instructed me to follow. Because she was my godmother in music”, said João Gustavo, who began showing symptoms of the disease three months after losing the singer.

Many fans supported him to pursue a music career, but the boy chose another path and, today, draws attention to his toned body, the result of intense physical activity.

In the interview, he talked about choosing his new profession and stated that he felt satisfied. “My head is in nutrition, I really found myself”, he guarantees.

The report also shows, exclusively, unpublished images of João Gustavo’s trip with Marília Mendonça, in 2017, to the United States, in one of the first tours Marília made outside Brazil.
