On Monday, August 26, Mariah Carey shared some very sad news. “I am heartbroken. I lost my mother this past weekend,” she said in a statement to E! That same day, her sister Alison died. “Unfortunately, in an unfortunate turn of events, my sister also lost her life on the same day. It was such a blessing to be able to spend the last week with my mother before she passed,” the artist wrote.
From what the pop star has said so far about her mother and sister, it seems their relationship was different. “It was never just black and white — it was a whole rainbow of emotions,” the artist wrote in her autobiography.

Mariah Carey has not revealed the cause of her mother and sister’s death. “I appreciate everyone’s love, support and respect for my privacy during this impossible time,” she said.
