Actions in the community aim to curb cargo and vehicle theft
This Monday, the Military Police launched operations in Complexo da Maré, in Rio’s North Zone, and in Cidade de Deus, in the West Zone, to curb the theft of cargo and vehicles — in Cidade de Deus, agents also removed barricades set up by drug traffickers on the streets. Several locks were burned. As a result of the action, 30 schools in the area were closed. There was no information about arrests or seizures.
In Maré, teams from the Shock Battalion (BPChq) and Special Operations (Bope) are in the Parque União favela, where 21 municipal schools and two public schools have suspended classes.
Military personnel from the 18th BPM (Jacarepaguá) operate in Cidade de Deus, supported by the 2nd Area Police Command (CPA). Seven of the city’s schools closed their doors to the public. There, according to reports from residents on social media, several barricades were set on fire in the early hours of the morning. Columns of smoke were visible from afar.
