With the Club World Cup still without a broadcasting deal, Manchester City have proposed to FIFA to help the entity sell the rights to the competition.
According to The Telegraph, the English club is trying to avoid the possibility of being expelled from the tournament for breaking the Premier League’s financial fair play rules.
Manchester City officials have held talks with FIFA about how the association can help promote the Club World Cup. The entity is grateful for the support of Ferran Soriano, who in addition to being the club’s general director, is also an executive at Grupo City, the company that owns the team.
In July, football’s highest governing body put the broadcasting rights for the next two editions of the intercontinental tournament, to be held in 2025 and 2029, out to tender for the markets in the Americas, Asia, the Middle East and North Africa, while the European package has yet to be announced.
