The call comes to the control center. Soon Johannes Glaum and his paramedic colleagues are on their way to the mission. When they get there, they find a man lying on the ground with another man standing next to him. “We didn’t dare touch him,” the paramedics say during the resuscitation. “That happens a lot. People have had their first aid training years ago, but they don’t have the confidence to do it,” says Glaum. There was a chance that the man could have survived that day, but he didn’t. “The emergency call took about two minutes, and it took another six minutes to get to the scene,” he explains. That’s precious time lost. The Malteser Relief Service in Bonn is also monitoring the situation and is asking everyone to attend regular first aid courses on Saturdays, which are first aid days.
