France proposes a “temporary twenty-one day” ceasefire in Lebanon
Paris, in cooperation with Washington, proposed a temporary twenty-one-day ceasefire in Lebanon for negotiations between Israel and Hezbollah, announced Jean-Noël Barrot, head of French diplomacy at an emergency meeting of the United Nations (UN) Security Council.
“In recent days, we have worked with our American partners on a temporary ceasefire platform for twenty-one days to enable negotiations”said Jean-Noël Barrot in New York.
“The platform will go public very quickly and we are counting on both parties to accept it”he added, stressing that a war between Israel and Hezbollah had not occurred “inevitable” and calls on all parties to commit to a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
“Chaos is brewing in Lebanon”warned, for his part, the UN Secretary General, Antonio Guterres, during this emergency meeting of the Security Council. “We must all be alert to this escalation, Lebanon is on the brink of collapse”he insisted, repeating it “the world cannot allow Lebanon to become another Gaza”.
