The Japanese premium brand is celebrating another milestone. According to the latest sales figures, Lexus will surpass the three million mark for electrified cars sold in 2024. This hybrids, plug-in hybrids and electric cars. The story began in 2004 with the debut of the RX 400h. After two decades, the range has expanded to such an extent that in Europe, 90% of Lexus vehicles leave showrooms in electrified variants.
Hybrids are a success for Lexus
Although hybrid and electric powertrains are more popular in Europe, more than half of the brand’s global sales are currently electrified cars. In the first half of 2024, customers around the world bought 214,000 such cars. The largest share went to the US, around 61,000, but Europe stands out for its share of total sales, reaching 90%. In the Japanese domestic market, electrified drives enjoy an 81% share.
Lexus Hybrids are present in practically every segment today. Initially, they were used in SUVs and limousines, and were then successively implemented in other types of cars, including crossovers, sports cars and even (as the example of the Lexus LM shows) exclusive vans. Of the just over three million electrified cars sold, more than half are crossovers and SUVs. The cars with these currently most popular body types and with hybrid or electric drives have so far found 1,651,595 buyers.

Which model remains number one in Lexus’ electrified lineup today? This is the SUV that started it all – The RX is the leader with 753,958 units sold. The fifth generation of this car offers up to three hybrid drive variants. In addition to the classic hybrid (RX 350h), the range also includes a plug-in hybrid (RX 450h+) and a hybrid that combines the advantages of a 2.4 turbocharged engine, automatic transmission, electric motors and DIRECT4 4×4 drive (RX 500h). .

They came in second with 614,228 copies. hybrid versions of the Lexus ES. Electrified drive was introduced in this model in 2012 and is currently the brand’s most popular limousine with this type of drive. The version currently available in Poland is the ES 300h – the 218-horsepower drivetrain uses a 2.5-liter naturally aspirated petrol engine and an electric drive.
Surpassing the half million units sold barrier guaranteed the model third place NX (545,802 units). The SUV, which debuted on the market in 2014, was available from the beginning in a hybrid variant. The second generation of this car currently on sale is available with a classic hybrid drive NX 350h or as plug-in hybrid (NX 450h+)which, thanks to a solid battery and an economical engine, can travel up to 98 km in EV mode.

Hybrid Lexuses – These Models Are Popular
Other places were occupied by, among others: Lexus UX, which has so far found a total of 296,612 buyers in its electrified variants. About 281,759 units were hybrid versions of the UX 250h and UX 300h. 14,853 cars sold were the all-electric UX 300e. However, the most popular model powered only by electricity from the socket is the RZ. The model, which went on sale in 2023, found 26,696 buyers worldwide.

The latest electrified model in the brand’s range is Lexus LBX. The city crossover was created with the European market in mind and it is here that it rises to the top of the sales rankings – equipped with a hybrid drive system with a 1.5 engine and optional E-Four drive, the model has already achieved 21,900 units. buyers worldwide. This result includes sales up to the end of June this year. Considering that the first units were delivered to customers in the spring, we can say that another success is on the way. The model based on the Toyota Yaris Cross is already selling better than the UX. In the first months of sales, it found more buyers than its rivals – the Audi Q2 or Mini Countryman.
Japanese are proud of Lexus in Poland
Premium car registration data for the first half of the year confirms the Japanese brand’s increasingly strong position. The first 6 months of 2024 have turned out to be record-breaking in terms of the number of cars leaving Lexus showrooms for the road. From January to June, 7,068 Lexus were registered in Poland, which represents an increase of 26% compared to last year. Thanks to this, the brand holds a 10.7% share of the premium market in Poland.
