In the summer, the Office for Electronic Communications issued temporary licenses to broadcast Polish radio stations from the Varso Tower, the tallest building in Warsaw and the European Union. They will be valid until January 29, 2025. The licenses apply to: Program 1 (92.40 MHz), Program 2 (104.90 MHz) and Polskie Radio 24 (92.0 MHz). The radiopolska.pl list shows that previously the municipal transmitters of these stations were located in the building of the former Marriott Hotel (175 meters).
During Wednesday’s meeting, the National Broadcasting Council accepted a change to the licensing arrangements for ZPR Media Group broadcasters. Member of the National Broadcasting Council, Prof. Tadeusz Kowalski informs Wirtualnemedia.pl that the following are moving from the Rondo 1 building (114 meters) to Radio Eska Warszawa (105.6 MHz), Radio Eska 2 Warszawa (89.8 MHz), Radio Eska Rock Warszawa (93.3 MHz), Eska Rock (102.00 MHz) and VOX FM (104.4 MHz). Thanks to the higher transmitter, the stations have a greater range. However, it is planned to introduce “suppression” so as not to disturb other broadcasts. This mainly concerns collection in Warsaw. Many stations with licenses to broadcast at higher power use Emitel’s facilities in Raszyn (332 meters). Some radio stations also use Emitel’s facilities in the Palace of Culture and Science (231 meters).
“There won’t be another facility like this in the near future.”
BCast does not disclose when it will use the licenses. It does not intend to give up the facilities of the former Marriott Hotel or the Rondo 1 building for the time being – BCast retains all facilities in Warsaw for the time being. The Varso Tower offers another broadcasting opportunity for BCast clients and depending on their needs and expectations, this facility will be used. Varso Tower is planned and prepared for FM/DAB/DVBT transmission, and is also available to other entities (mobile operators, state services). It has a professional colocation room ready to receive clients. In the case of RTV broadcasters, the move to this facility largely depends on the parameters that will be agreed with the UKE and the broadcasters, – Olga Zomer, spokeswoman for Cyfrowy Polsat, told Wirtualnemedia.pl.

According to the company, the company’s facilities will improve the reception of the service stations. – Due to its location (centre of Warsaw) and the height of the antennas (from 230 to 310 m), in our opinion, this facility provides the best broadcasting conditions – after analysing the test results. Many new skyscrapers with a height of approximately 200 m are being built in the centre of Warsaw, which affects the operation of the current broadcasts in Warsaw. To our knowledge, there will be no other facility like the Varso Tower in the near future and its parameters mean that the impact of newly constructed buildings will not be significant. – adds the representative of Cyfrowy Polsat.
The UKE licences for the operation of experimental Bcast DVB-T2/HEVC multiplexes in Warsaw, Gdańsk and Wrocław are valid only until 28 September. The Institute believes that this is a generally applicable standard and will therefore no longer issue test licences. A tender for the reservation of the MUX-5 band for digital terrestrial television is expected to start soon. Emitel, MWE Teleport and Bcast are applying for frequency reservation.
