July ends with record high for Turkish tourism

More than 7.3 million tourists came to Turkey in July, up 2.6 percent year-on-year, the Turkish Ministry of Culture and Tourism reported, according to dailysabah.com. This is the highest number of tourists recorded in a month in the country’s history.

Germany topped the ranking of foreign markets with over a million tourists. Russia came in second (922,000) and Great Britain (660,900) came in third. Poland and Iran were just behind the podium.

In the first seven months of the year, the number of foreign visitors increased by 8.3 percent compared to the same period last year, reaching almost 29 million, and combined with the 4.5 million Turks living abroad – 33.5 million, a clear indicator of the strong recovery of the tourism sector.

From January to July, the largest group of foreigners was made up of Russians (over 3.6 million), followed by Germans and British (3.5 million and 2.4 million, respectively). Fourth and fifth places went to Iran and Bulgaria.

The number of tourists from Poland increased by 30 percent, but most of them came from Russia
