Republicans are afraid of Taylor Swift
The comment, made on Fox News, backfired as social media users bombarded Vance with questions about how he could say such a thing when Trump is also a billionaire.
“This makes you think,” wrote one former Twitter user X, adding a photo of Trump in his gold-plated apartment.
“Congratulations, you just described your candidate!” said another in the video, also showing photos of Trump in his luxury apartment, adding that the Republican does not represent the “average American.”
“The bottom line is they are very angry at the billionaire for being a billionaire because the billionaire doesn’t support them,” added another user X.
The singer revealed her support on Instagram Tuesday night, captioning the post with “Childless Cat Lady,” a reference to Vance’s 2021 comment.
“We are mismanaged in this country by Democrats, by a bunch of childless broads who are unhappy with their lives and the choices they have made, so they want the rest of the country to be unhappy too,” he said.
The clip resurfaced after Trump announced Vance as his running mate, and the senator later said he “regretted” the comments.
How much support can Taylor Swift give?
The Republican vice presidential nominee’s response to Swift’s endorsement also appeared on The View on Thursday, with host Whoopi Goldberg telling him to “shut up,” adding that she knew nothing about Swift’s finances or situation.
She later apologized, saying she didn’t appreciate being told to shut up, but stressed that Republicans were clearly dismayed by Swift’s endorsement of Harris.
Chelsea Clinton, the daughter of former President Bill Clinton and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, who was also a Trump rival, appeared on ABC and said Swift encouraged people to register to vote and make their own decisions.
“I want everyone to vote,” Clinton said. “That’s how we strengthen our democracy.”
Swift’s Instagram post had a significant impact, with over 337,000 likes, and people clicked the link on her website to register to vote.
