About 45,000 residents of the cities of Wajima, Suzu and Noto, in Ishikawa Prefecture alone, were evacuated, local authorities said. One person was missing in Wajima, where waters flooded buildings and landslides blocked roads. It was the area worst hit by the 7.5-magnitude quake that struck Japan at the turn of the year, killing at least 236 people.

This Saturday (21/9), Japanese authorities ordered the evacuation of more than 60,000 people in central Japan due to flooding caused by heavy rains that left at least one person missing.

About 45,000 residents of the cities of Wajima, Suzu and Noto in Ishikawa Prefecture were evacuated, the local government said, adding that a dozen rivers in the area had overflowed.

One person was missing in Wajima, where floodwaters inundated several buildings and landslides blocked roads, the local government said in a statement.
