The Presidential Couple invites you to the National Reading of “Kordian” by Juliusz Słowacki, which will begin today at 11:00 am in Warsaw’s Saxon Garden. Together with Andrzej Duda and Agata Kornhauser-Duda, the work of the outstanding Polish writer will be read by notable actors: Przemysław Wyszyński, Jędrzej Hycnar, Krzysztof Kwiatkowski, Lidia Sadowa, Jarosław Gajewski, Vanessa Aleksander, Szymon Kuśmider, Tomasz Borkowski, Wiesław Komasa, Marcin Przybylski and Andrzej Ferenc.
This year, traditionally, you will be able to receive a commemorative stamp on a copy of “Kordian” brought to the Saski Garden.
13th edition of the campaign
This is the 13th edition of the campaign to promote Polish culture and literature and support reading. This year, more than 5,000 entries were received from Poland and around the world – the majority of foreign entries came from Ukraine (more than 100 places). In total, “Kordian” will be read in 60 countries, on almost all continents.
The first National Reading took place in 2012. It was a joint reading of “Pan Tadeusz” by Adam Mickiewicz.
Honorary sponsorship of the Presidential Couple
The event, as every year, is honorarily sponsored by the Presidential Couple. President Andrzej Duda encouraged people to take part in the National Reading.
I would like this joint reading to reflect on Poland and the Polish destiny. But also on the topicality of ‘Kordian’. Because Słowacki’s drama is about the struggle of the Poles against tsarism, but it can also be treated as a story about our modern times. About the fact that freedom and independence require selfless sacrifice and constant readiness to act. That responsibility, consistency and the will to act lead to victory, while indecision, fear and illusions lead to defeat.
– wrote President Duda in a special letter.
