Itaparica councilor trapped in ambulance wreckage

Councilor Antônio Paulo Souza dos Santos (PSD), 56 years old, was trapped inside the ambulance he was driving, after crashing into a pole near Manguinhos beach, in the city of Vera Cruz, on the island of Itaparica. The case occurred this Tuesday, the 24th.

In images circulating on social media, the moment the firefighters and Samu responded to the incident, amidst the rain, can be seen. Inside the vehicle, the council member was sitting and receiving treatment from health professionals.

To Afternoon PortalThe National Highway Police Battalion (BPRV), reported that the councilor was taken to the Itaparica General Hospital. Although the vehicle was completely destroyed, the councilor suffered minor injuries and is not at risk.

Known in the area as Paulo de Manguinhos, councillors use ambulances to transport patients as there is no Mobile Emergency Care Service (Samu) in the area. The service was implemented in 2012.
