While exchanges of fire between Israeli soldiers and Hezbollah militias continue in Lebanon, the Israeli military said it also carried out attacks in Syria at night. The army said a top Hamas member was killed in the airstrike. Ahmad Mohammed Fahd was responsible for firing rockets into the Israeli-annexed Golan Heights. According to the Israeli army, he is said to be the leader of Hamas in southern Syria.
The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights confirmed his death. Fahd’s wife was also killed in an Israeli drone strike southwest of Damascus. Several family members were injured. Human rights activists initially could not confirm whether he was a member of Hamas.
