Israel vowed a harsh response to the attack with hundreds of missiles on the cities of Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, on Tuesday (10/1). The attack from Iran came in response to the assassination of former leaders of Hamas and Hezbollah.
In response, Israeli military spokesman Daniel Hagari said that “the Iranian attack is a serious and dangerous escalation” and that “there will be consequences.” The retaliation began with the announcement that new Israeli military forces would join forces carrying out the ground invasion in southern Lebanon.
The Israeli army said in a message posted on its official Telegram channel:
“The 36th Division, including soldiers from the Golani Brigade, 188th Armored Brigade, 6th Infantry Brigade and additional forces, joins limited, localized and targeted attacks on Hezbollah terrorist targets and terrorist infrastructure in southern Lebanon” that began on Monday.
The message also says that “the soldiers are accompanied by the Israeli Air Force and the 282nd Artillery Brigade.”
He added: “Our defensive and offensive capabilities are at the highest levels of readiness. Our operational plans are ready. Government spokesman Daniel Hagari said: “We will respond where, when and how we choose, in accordance with the directives of the Israeli government.”
