According to Lebanese sources, the Israeli army had contacted Beirut’s international airport to prevent the Iranian plane from landing.
Soldiers reported by radio to the airport control tower on Saturday morning and warned that Iranian civilian planes heading to Beirut should not land there, the Minister of Public Works and Transport, Ali Hamijah, told the German Press Agency. Otherwise, the Israeli military will use force to prevent the landing. Hamijah said he had ordered the airport to prevent the plane from landing. Apparently the Israeli military received information that the plane was loaded with weapons and ammunition for Hezbollah.
Israel contacted the airport – the Iranian plane turned away
Israel may succeed in this. Israeli media reported that a cargo plane operated by Iranian airline Qeshm Air had turned back towards Beirut and was returning to Tehran.
An Israeli military spokesman said the transfer of weapons to Hezbollah was not permitted in any way. The Israeli Air Force will guard the area around Beirut Airport. So far, unlike neighboring Syria, Lebanon has behaved “responsibly” and does not allow arms transfers through civilian airports.
