Removal of documents from files, misappropriation of significant amounts of property collateral (up to PLN 2 million) and other irregularities in the activities of the Prosecutor’s Office in Nowy Sącz – including: concerns two new investigations initiated by the National Prosecutor’s Office. On Tuesday, the PK announced that all this was revealed during the investigation into the death of prosecutor Paweł M., who was found dead on March 30, 2023 in his apartment in Nowy Sącz.
As the spokesman for the National Prosecutor’s Office, Prosecutor Przemysław Nowak, said on Tuesday: in connection with irregularities at Nowy Sącz District Attorney, The Krakow Regional Prosecutor’s Office has started the lustration covering approximately 4,500 cases preparatory work carried out there. The investigations concern “serious and systemic irregularities” in the functioning of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Nowy Sącz and the District Prosecutor’s Office in Nowy Sącz in the years 2016-2023.
Irregularities came to light during the investigation death of prosecutor Paweł M. He served as Deputy District Attorney in Nowy Sącz. He was found dead on March 30, 2023 in his apartment. An investigation was then launched to cause someone to take their own life by persuading or providing help. They are managed by the Office of the Inspector General of the National Prosecutor’s Office. Investigators have adopted different versions of the causes and circumstances of the death of prosecutor Paweł M.
The spokesperson for the National Prosecutor’s Office explained that during the process regarding the cause of death the circumstances that led to the start of the crime were revealed. two new investigations into serious irregularities in the activities of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Nowy Sącz.
The first concerns certify untruths and misappropriate money and remove documents from the records of preparatory processesand also misappropriation of significant funds paid in the years 2016-2023 to the District Prosecutor’s Office in Nowy Sącz as property guarantees and property security.
So far, it has been established that funds worth approximately PLN 200,000 zloty were misappropriated. Available data suggest that the total amount of embezzled funds could have ranged from PLN 1.5 to PLN 2 million. – explained the spokesperson.
The second investigation concerns failure to perform their duties since at least 2018 by prosecutors of the District Prosecutor’s Office in Nowy Sącz and the District Prosecutor’s Office in Nowy Sącz who were the service superiors or superiors of the late prosecutor Paweł M.
The failure to comply with the obligations allegedly involved the lack of internal supervision and adequate oversight over the proceedings conducted at the District Prosecutor’s Office in Nowy Sącz, as well as over the circulation of documents, registration and disposal of proceedings, and over the statistical data and reports submitted. – explained prosecutor Nowak.
All of the above procedures are conducted “on case”, meaning that So far no one has been charged. Lubrication is expected to be completed by mid-September 2024.
