With ceremonies and copal smoke baths, indigenous and Afro-Mexican communities began the ritual of handing over the baton of leadership to the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum.

“(Claudia Sheinbaum) is not alone, we are all united to continue the work,” said one of the indigenous women who led the ceremony.

At 4:00 p.m., the President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, left the National Palace, immediately received an escort of military women, and then proceeded toward the temple, where indigenous women were waiting for her to begin the ceremony.

“You are the voice that we (Indigenous women) have not had, and we are celebrating, because for the first time a woman has reached (the presidency),” the Indigenous woman highlighted.
