Night work allowance – what time?
For night work, which is generally intended for the worker to rest, an allowance is due (article 151.º8 § 1 of the Labour Code). The amount of the night shift allowance depends on the amount of the minimum wage currently applicable and the number of working hours in a given month.
The rule is that the night shift is 8 hours between 9pm and 7am. Each employer must specify in their regulations which specific working hours are considered night work, for example, from 10pm to 6am.
Night work allowance – August and September 2024
How much is the work allowance for August and September this year? PLN 5.12, and where did this number come from? We are already translating. In both August and September we have 168 working hours (i.e. 21 working days). The minimum wage is PLN 4,300.00 gross. To calculate the night shift bonus, divide the minimum wage by the number of hours worked in the month and then multiply by 20%.. Therefore, we calculate 20% of the hourly rate applicable in a given month and resulting from the minimum wage.
4300: 168 x 20% = 5.11904762
Rounding to two decimal places, we get result 5.12. In July, this allowance amounted to PLN 4.67 due to the higher number of working hours – 184. In August and September, the night allowance is 45 groszy higher.
Important
In the case of part-time work, the minimum wage and the number of working hours are determined according to the working time. Remuneration is reduced in proportion to the working time.
Important
Permanent night work outside the workplace allows the night allowance to be replaced by a fixed amount. The amount of the fixed amount is determined in such a way as to correspond to the expected number of night works of a given employee.
