Highest funeral allowance 2024
On Friday, the Ministry of Family, Labor and Social Policy published a draft amendment to the Pensions Law, which provides for a significant increase in the funeral allowance. According to the proposed changes, its value would increase from 4,000 PLN to 7,000 PLN zloty. Furthermore, this benefit would remain covered by the indexing mechanismwhich would mean regular increases in the future. The project is currently the subject of public consultations. Andrzej Domański reported on Tuesday (August 13) in Polsat News that the Ministry of Finance wants the amount of the funeral allowance to increase to more than PLN 6,450.
Indexation of funeral allowance
The funeral allowance is a one-off financial support intended to cover expenses related to the organization of a funeral. Since 2011, the amount of the funeral allowance has remained unchanged at PLN 4,000. zlotys. Due to this situation, the Ministry of Family, Labour and Social Policy proposed to increase this benefit to PLN 7,000. zlotys. Additionally The funeral allowance is scheduled to be indexed annually from March 1, in line with the previous year’s inflation. The first such indexation will take place in 2025. The funeral allowance is financed, among others, by: the pension fund, which is part of the Social Security Fund.
Who can receive funeral subsidy?
The funeral allowance is due to all persons or entities that bore the expenses of the funeral ceremony, regardless of their degree of kinship with the deceased. Both the deceased’s family and third parties or institutions that finance the funeral are entitled to the funeral allowance.
Who will not receive funeral assistance?
The right to a funeral allowance is only available to those who have borne the actual costs associated with organizing the funeral. Even the immediate family of the deceased cannot claim the benefit if they do not contribute to the expenses of the ceremony. In addition, a claim for benefits is subject to prescription after one year from the date of death.
