In the Sumy region, on the Seim River, water quality is deteriorating at the upper control points, the probable source of pollution is located in Russia.
This was announced by the press service of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources on Thursday, September 19.
It should be noted that in the Sumy region on the Seim River «Water quality continues to deteriorate at the upper control points,” and the likely source of contamination is in Russia.
“The worst indicators are recorded in the area between the villages of Prudy and Mutin,” the report says.
At the same time, in the Chernihiv region, the water quality in the Seimas is improving. All indicators are within the standards, except for manganese in Baturin, where it exceeds the standard by 1.2 times.
The results of water sample measurements in Desna, Chernihiv region, indicate that water quality has also improved at all points, the ministry said.
Water pollution in the Seim and Desna rivers: what is known
On August 27, the State Agency for Land Reclamation and Fisheries of Ukraine reported that a significant excess of the maximum permissible concentrations of pollutants, in particular ammonium and suspended solids, was recorded in the Seim River, a tributary of the Desna.
The pollution spread throughout the Seim water area in the Sumy region and reached Chernihiv.
On August 30, Deputy Environmental Protection Minister Alexander Krasnolutsky said that the Seim River in Russia was polluted.
The Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine has reported that the water quality in the Seim and Desna rivers is under control and there is no threat to the supply of drinking water.
On August 7, the Kiev Vodokanal said that, if necessary, the technological process of water treatment in kyiv will be adapted. Now the water that reaches the homes of the residents of kyiv is safe.
On September 9, Chernigov reported an unpleasant smell and the death of fish in the Desna. The press service of the Ministry of Environmental Protection reported that the pollution has moved under Chernigov.
According to updated data from the Hydrometeorological Center of Ukraine, contaminated water could reach the Kyiv region on September 14-16, according to Ukrainian Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources Svetlana Grinchuk.
On September 11, the head of the municipal security department of the Kyiv City State Administration, Roman Tkachuk, said that the river pollution situation was under control and that the supply of drinking water in Kyiv was not in danger. He added that if a threat is identified, the population will be warned at least 24 hours in advance.
On September 17, in the Sumy region, near the village of Mutin, a probable recontamination of the water of the Seim River was recorded.
