In the northern part of the Gaza Strip, “a lot [d’habitants] now they face starvation,” warns the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights

The UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volker Turk, said he feared on Friday that the continued bombardment of northern Gaza would lead the population to “ hunger ».

“Northern Gaza is continuously bombarded”he was alarmed, troubled by the fact that “Israeli army orders displacement of hundreds of thousands of people with no guarantee of return”while“there is no safe way to leave”.

The senior official emphasized “extremely limited access” to the northern regions of that Palestinian territory which “almost no aid has been able to arrive for weeks as illegal restrictions continue” from Israel. “Many now face starvation”he assured.

At the same time, Mr. Turk charged, “Israeli army strikes hospitals, staff and patients killed or injured or forced to evacuate”.

“For months, I have been addressing all parties to the conflict, as well as all countries (…) to act to end the carnage and destruction, to ensure the swift and unconditional release of all hostages and to ensure respect for international humanitarian and human rights law”launched Mr. Turk.
