Federal Criminal Police Office President Holger Münch views the increased controls at Germany’s land borders as a success.
“The number of findings is increasing with the controls,” he told Editorial Network Germany (RND). “But just as importantly, we have to guard against the smuggling networks. That is why it is important to carry out investigations along the smuggling routes in international cooperation. This can be very successful and the federal police in particular are very active here.” Münch added: “Last year we counted around 4,000 suspects. That is an increase of 25 percent compared to the previous year.”
