About 30 cubic meters of illegal charcoal were seized on the night of Monday (14) in a truck in the district of Taruma, western zone of Manaus. The 38-year-old driver of the car was detained.

While patrolling Avenida do Turismo, around 11:00 p.m., police officers from the environmental battalion approached the vehicle with registration number BWG – 6473, which was transporting the plant product valued at approximately 75,600 Brazilian dollars.

Even during the police proceedings, the truck driver did not produce a document of forest origin (DOF), which characterizes an environmental crime.

The man was taken along with the truck and the cargo to the 19th Unified Police Department (UDP).

Environmental crimes

A crime against the environment is the sale, transport, storage or exposure for sale of products of plant origin (coal or wood) without the relevant license or in failure to comply with the documentation, subjecting the perpetrators to the penalties provided for in the Law on crimes against the environment. .
