He Electoral Institute of Mexico (IECM) reports training its staff in conflict management, through a conservatory called Quality Circles.
Through these talks, he explained, Institute personnel are trained, primarily assigned to District Headquarters, which organize community meetings where residents consider issues pertaining to their communities, such as Participatory Budgeting.
“The Quality Circle aims to identify, analyze and resolve issues related to day-to-day institutional activities, which impact the performance of the Election Management System, through small, short-term improvement projects,” IECM explained.
In this first circle, the coordinator of the Galtung Institute for Latin America, Fernando Montiel highlights the integration of conflict resolution methods.
In this regard, he explained that, although citizens and officials have different interpretations of social issues in the roles they should play, agreement can be reached through transparency and communication.
Finally, he invited participants to imagine ways that could strengthen citizenship education and the application of conflict resolution methods through a culture of peace.
